Chris Ingram Memorial 5 Mile Road Race NEW VENUE & DISTANCE FOR 2008 Sunday
21st September 2008 - Defence Animal Centre, Melton Mowbray Results The new venue for the 2008 Chris Ingram memorial race proved to be a great success, with thanks to our hosts at the Defence Animal Centre in Melton Mowbray. The sunshine was perfect and the hills over the five mile course presented a worthy challenge to the 100 strong runners who gave it a go. Stilton Strider's Chris Southam set the early pace, with Rutland AC's Jonny Pegg in close pursuit. Amongst the following group were Tom Wardman, Wreake's Bruno Nikoloff, Felicity Milton of Woodgreen, Desford's Richard Billington and Stilton's Darren Glover. Southam gradually drew clear of the field, and Pegg faded over the latter stages, while a well-paced run from Milton saw her move through to second place. Southam went on to win comfortably in 27.20, with Milton 2nd (and first woman) in 29.12, closely followed by Tom Wardman in 29.18. Bruno Nikoloff was 4th (3rd male) in 29.33, with Pegg next home in 29.50 just in front of Billington (29.51). Nicola Clay worked through the field finishing strongly to claim 7th place (2nd lady) in 30.25. Kimberley Looms of Charnwood was 3rd woman (15th overall) in 32.00. Full results are here (Microsoft Excel format). The History The Chris Ingram memorial event started out as a 5 mile road race around the streets of Melton, but from 2003 to 2006 the race was held at the Stapleford Park Hotel, becoming a rural 10k two lap course around the grounds of the hotel and the Leicestershire lanes, also incorporating a fun run and children's races. In 2007 the race was cancelled due to foot and mouth disease precautions because the course passed over half a mile of farm land. Despite the success of Stapleford as a venue, for 2008 we decided to bring the race back into Melton Mowbray, to be run from the Defence Animal Centre, and back to its original distance of 5 miles. Winners of the Chris Ingram 10k at Stapleford Park were: 2007:
